A Fight for the Future: Dark Destinies and Lasting Loves

Siana sat at one of the tables in an outdoor café in the more residential parts of the capital. As soon as she sat at the table a holographic screen with the menu on it appeared above the table and a kind voice asked her what she would like. She clicked the picture of a large coffee, not even bothering to say anything; she was far to tired. She had been up late again doing paperwork, planning and making sure the ship was up to shape. She even managed to get in some late night training before she eventually went to sleep. But because of an early morning meeting with the Heads of the Council discussing the situation of the war an allied species was having, she wasn't able to sleep for very long.

Exhausted, she put  her head down on the table and she waited for one of the floating robotic servers to bring her coffee over. Looking around her, she noticed that many of the people seemed either getting ready to go out tonight or going home. Watching them she was reminded of the words of her captain. 'Go out take a break. And that's an order. You worked hard and if you are too tired you won't be if useful to anyone.' She glared at the thought of there being something she couldn't do. She hadn't been back on Earth from her mission helping one of Earth's allies two days, before they started trying to get rid of her. Though everything had gone well this time she worried that next time that might not be true. She didn't need to sit back  and relax but get up and get ready for the next time she would be called to fight.

By this time the robot waiter had come with her coffee. She didn't care about what was in it as long as the caffeine would give her the little boost of energy she needed to make it home. She sat up and took the cup from the machine.  It waited for a moment to see if she wanted anything else but left when she said nothing. Sia took a sip and left out a big sigh as the warm bitter liquid started to work it's magic.

A few tables away, enough to be within earshot, Elissa sat with a pair of wireless headphones in, listening to news broadcasts of several different languages. She had a large cup of hot tea halfway finished and her stare was distant as she listened, mouthing along with the newscaster, translating it into a separate language. Every once in a while a few words would slip out loud and she'd blush slightly.


She tapped the left headphone and the channel changed, the speaker speaking yet another language. And the process began again. She didn't realize it looked like she was staring at a woman a few tables over, who appeared very exhausted. Elissa's large violet eyes looked dull, as if she were bored, when in fact she was very not bored. She was preparing for a job that she'd get. Hopefully. Translators and linguists aren't very useful sometimes. But she figured she'd try anyways.

Even though she really hated the war going on with the allies, Elissa was determined to get involved, to help end it before it got worse. In fact, most wars begin because of miscommunication, or a lack thereof. Her investigation of history of Earth showed clear signs of it. People are too quick to judge and jump to conclusions. 99% of the time no one stepped back to analyze the facts of what was going on. Humans were, and tend to be be, extremely head-strong and stubborn, a trait found with almost every species she had ever encountered.

Her eyes finally focused on the woman. She looked vaguely familiar, as if she'd seen a picture of her once or twice before. Elissa couldn't place a name to the face, but she actually seemed important. And she could most definitely be Turuamian like Elissa. With that long silvery looking hair and, well she couldn't see her eyes that well, but if she had ot guess they were probably not normal colored. She silently and a little timidly sipped some more tea, moving her eyes down to the table.

Siana drank her coffee slowly savoring the feeling of ever sip. This was one of the reasons she loved coming to this cafe. While she didn't come to this cafe as often as the one closest to her apartment this cafe always brewed the coffee just right. The second reason she loved this cafe was the location it was in a quieter area then the one she lived in, with less people moving around and being loud. You also got a great picturesque view of the tallest and most important buildings in the city in the distance. If her apartment wasn't on the otherside of town then she would come there every day.

As Sia continued to take long, slow sips of her coffee. She looked around at the other people at the cafe and soon noticed another Turuamian woman sitting not far from her. She was actually very surprised to see her since there where so few Turuamians that actually lived in the capital.  Whoever the young woman, she looked engrossed in whatever it was she was listening to.

I wonder how everyone's doing back home, she thought to herself as she stared off at the tall building in the distance.  It had been awhile since she'd talked with her family and even longer since she'd seen them in person.Now that she was back she knew she would have to call home but still she dreaded having to talk to her mother again who would just bother her again about her sleeping habits and lack of a relationship.

Elissa had noticed the other Turuamian glance at her, and fiddled around for a moment in the jacket of her blazer that was over the back of her chair and pulled out a pair of reading glasses. She then pulled out a stack of papers from a bag at her side and splayed them in front of her. She slid on the dark violet glasses and started looking over the papers. It's obvious that these had been read before and marked many time over. She pulled out the head phones and deposited them on the table.

Elissa rested her chin in her hand, chewing ever so lightly on her index fingernail. "Now, if these are the right copies, and who knows if these idiots can actually translate, then it should make more sense then it does!" she began muttering to herself. She took another drink of tea. This was a side project of hers before she actually started working. This thought stopped her and made her frown.

Thinking about it... where was she supposed to go again? Some central government building? Or maybe it was an intelligence agency? She groaned and leaned forward. "Oh great, I can't remember where I'm supposed to go now. I knew I should have written it down. Or at least have taken something to remind me." She sighed and gathered her things. She figured maybe she could go ask someone.

Hey, maybe that other Turuamian would know! She looks pretty official.

With her bag in one hand, her cup in the other, her blazer over her shoulders, and her reading glasses still on, she appraoched the woman. The closer she got the more shy she felt. Er, maybe this wasn't a good time to- she was already at the table. She blinked and smiled a little nervously.

"Um, excuse me miss, but I was wondering if you knew where I could find the Central Command Center? At least I think that's what it's called. I can't exactly remember. And, well, you look very official and like you might know where it is. I'm sorry if I assumed wrong, heh." All the time she was speaking she was fidgeting and avoiding long bouts of eye contact.

Sia turned her head and looked at the shy woman before her when she approached her. She couldn't help smiling a bit as the woman reminded her of her baby brother and his shy, quiet nature. But when the woman started talking about the Central Command Center, Siana knew she had to be serious.

"Central Com? It's in the center of the city. It's the largest building. If your going there you'll need to hurry. Judging by the sky I think it closes in about two hours. Even if you have a meeting they're not letting anyone else in after that." Sia said double checking the time to make sure she was right. That was another thing she liked about the Capital. The weather was always perfect and you could always tell what time it was by the sky since the dome over the city acted as both protection from the water and as a fake sky.

Elissa gasped and looked a bit frazzled as she looked up at the sky. She nodded to Sia then turned and started jogging towards the Central Com building.

"Thank you miss! I hope to see you around some time!" She waved and turned, hurrying to Central Com. She knew that being punctual was a big thing here, and that if she didn't fix her ways, she might be out of a job before she even had one. That lady seemed nice though.

Eilssa scurried into Central Com, asking where she could find Head of Communications. She was directed to their office and spent the rest of the time that Central Com was open discussing her future job. She was excited to actually get to see actual battleships and all of that big military stuff.

Elyador Grail was wiping out the final mug, making sure that no residual grounds remained. He held the cup to his eyes, just to be sure. He smiled, a rare sight, and set the cup down, satisfied by his work. He looked around the small cafe, checking his work. everything was glittering, and if you looked closely enough you could see your reflection. He placed his hands on his hips, watching the door.

They didn't get many customers, which didn't surprise Eli. They were only a small cafe, hidden in between two skyscrapers within the capital. The manager only came by to pay Eli, but was otherwise incognito. The cafe didn't even have enough money to buy robot servers, which was the only reason why the manager hired him. Ever since then, he had been making the run down place into a cafe fit for a king.

As Eli waited, he made some coffee, using some kind of French ground. The boiling water hissed, making a screaming noise out of the kettle. He grabbed it and poured it onto the grounds, delight blossoming through his head as he saw the black liquid drip into his cup. He poured some cream into the cup and mixed it. His tongue liked the taste of different coffee's with different mixtures; for example, he loved his own homemade blend black.

He lifted the cup and sipped the coffe, not really minding the heat. It actually made him feel better. Elyador released a breath, wishing a customer would come in. The last week he hadn't been so lucky, nor the week before. For a while, two or three people would come in, but now that trend was stopping. He scratched his cheek, closing is eyes as he did so. Maybe Capital Coffee was doomed after all.

Anna walked down the street. She needed a nice calm place to rest. Scouting out big companies to help and signing up to join the military was pretty stressful after a while. She gave the shop she paused in front of a look over. No one was there so it seemed fine.

The blonde young lady walked, the clinking of her clothes echoed in the shop and she made eye contact with the man behind the counter.

She pulled out her Mobil and began writing her report.
